Description

THIS BOOK IS AN AMAZON NO. 1 BEST SELLER

Experience C.S. Lewis anew through the eyes of an author dedicated to making classic literature accessible and engaging for all.

This book is for everyone who has ever said, “I tried to read it but couldn’t get through it.”

I never imagined such an overwhelming response! In just the past year, 79% of readers have left a 5-star review. This book is presently ranked #6 in Religious Ethics (Books) and #12 in Religion & Philosophy (Books) on Amazon.

When I first encountered Mere Christianity, I wondered if the average reader in North America could fully grasp its meaning without constantly reaching for an English-to-“English” dictionary. Even as someone born and raised in England, I found myself looking up some of C.S. Lewis’s 1940s-era expressions. Lewis acknowledged how language evolves, and I have carefully updated British idioms and vocabulary for North American and international audiences.

I was concerned that a re-write / update might change the original intent of CS Lewis but it does not. Just makes it flow nicer for easier reading in modern English!

If you love C.S. Lewis but have a difficult time understanding some of his archaic language, you need this modern English version by David Harrison. Mr. Harrison takes the language of mid-twentieth century England and gives it an update making Lewis more understandable and enjoyable to the modern reader. A great read.

I am so impressed Mr. Harrison has done what I wish had been done before. He took a marvelous work that, for some folks, like myself, can be lost in the language used in some parts of the book. Lewis’ Mere Christianity & The Screwtape Letters have a profound message that people like myself can get a better understanding by rewording parts in a more modern vernacular that can be absorbed deeper both mentally and spiritually.
Thank you Mr. David Harrison. Well done sir!

Excellent read for those wanting to learn more about CS Lewis and/or his take on being a Christian. It being translated into modern/everyday English makes it an easy read and far easier to understand what he was saying/meaning. I also recommend The Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis and The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan who greatly influenced Lewis.
