Although titled Book 1, this is the sixth book C.S. Lewis wrote in the seven-book Narnia series. It has been rewritten in everyday English for today’s children. The author has worked diligently to stay as close to the original text as possible, adapting British English idioms and vocabulary for North American and international readers.

This version has been formatted specifically for younger readers (7 to 9 years of age). It uses 13-point type, increased line and paragraph spacing, drop-caps have been removed, and any references to violence have been toned down to be age-appropriate.
